Playing with Glass

Glass Flamingo Wood Panel Art - Birdsong Lane Art

I once bought a small wooden cradle. While playing around with leftover resin, I made this beach and ocean scene. Aren't the wave bubbles awesome? And then it sat on my shelf, while I stared at it. FOR. A. LONG. TIME.

I made plenty of other pieces of art. And still, she sat. People would come into my studio and flag her as one that they liked. I never offered to sell her because she didn't feel "done" to me. She was missing something.

And then, I went to Glass Crafters in my search for Opal pink glass. I have a flamingo-loving friend and was hoping to find bright pink glass. While I didn't find exactly what I was looking for, I did have a great conversation, picked up some ideas and a lot of glass remnants.

One day, I sorted through all I had picked up and put them into bins by color. And this fun bird developed. Out came the pink body. I cut the triangles and sanded them with a dremel. While she isn't a true flamingo, I think she has the same flair.

As soon as I posted her on my Instagram, a buyer popped up. And so, as fast as little miss almost-flamingo came together, she went off to her new forever home. And I couldn't be happier for her.
